Recreational Adventures for Visitors Experiencing Disabilities (RAD) Program in Jefferson County

Enjoy the Outdoors on an Adaptive Bike

Through RAD, multiple adaptive devices are available to reserve for visitors with physical disabilities. Rides are available Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and will be matched with the availability of a staff member and volunteer.

This is a free service. We ask that each rider also brings an additional adult to assist on the ride (with their own bicycle). A Jeffco staff member will transport the adaptive bike(s) to the trailhead and go over proper operation. The Jeffco employee and a volunteer will also accompany the rider and their assistant(s). The bikes available to reserve are Nuke models made by Reactive Adaptations, based out of Crested Butte, Colorado. Riders are in a recumbent position and power the bike using hand cranks. The Nuke has Quad grips and Quad brakes, as well as rear suspension. Additional power is available via an electric assist that can be adjusted based on personal needs/energy/incline.
